My Time on the Drift - Day 10-11

The beginning of July always marks the end of a busier time working cattle and moving into haying. We have been irrigating since the beginning of May and are lucky the hay meadows look better than last year. We are genuinely dependent on rain, or any moisture, to make our lives a bit easier. As I write this a thunderhead is building up over the desert and I can only hope it is receiving some much-needed rain.
The weather has been mild this year, giving us beautiful cool mornings to move the cattle. I'll take that over an 85+ degree day anytime! Day 10 and 11 we traveled through Marsh Creek to Blooms Cabin and then from there through the counting gate and ending at Jim Creek. Today was a much longer day than what we have done the past four and the wear and tear of the journey is showing. It's not unusual to have some sore-footed cattle and to be tired...heck, I would be too! If we are able to trail to our upper allotment tomorrow that means we will be done moving the cattle for a while. Our goal this summer is to ride the allotment once a week if possible to help doctor and move cattle as needed. I have no doubt that the bears and wolves will be pushing the cattle around and our range rider may need some help.
Keep your fingers crossed that tomorrow is our last day! We need a day off and the 4th of July would be a great day to do it.
