With over 100 years of history behind me, and hopefully many more before, this is our journey on the Green River Drift in 2020.

Saturday, June 20 - Day Three:

Lately, my mornings have included getting up around 5 AM and reflecting on the previous day. It's a good way to take note of what good, and sometimes bad, happened the day before. I think that without some self-reflection you stay stagnant as a person which is a disservice to many, including ourselves. Another reason why I started this blog. I love to write and I found myself struggling to find the creative flair needed at times to craft an article and tell a story. I decided the best way to fix that was to dive into it and write about what I love. The west, the people, and our way of life.

I think some time in the saddle makes you ponder various things. Obviously, I had a thoughtful day, but my Great Grandparents and Grandparents crossed my mind frequently. The work they did on the same land gives me a lot of pride and curiosity. How would they handle our modern-day issues? I would like to think that we would share the same tenacity and determination to keep going no matter the issues we face. This gives me a little extra boost when it seems like we can't catch a break and savor the really good days.

Yesterday, we rode and worked with family, friends, and neighbors. This has not changed for many generations and this gives me a lot of pride as well. Much of the work we do would not get done as easily if we didn't have this relationship. That's another aspect to The Drift that sets us apart. We rely on each other to operate. This year we are working our cattle a little differently and hopefully, that helps our neighbors tomorrow.

We repeated much of what we did the day before and gathered the "Flats" of our neighbors. left our cattle and pushed them to private ground. It was a team effort that I know will pay off as we do our final sort before moving onto the Mesa.
